The Pirates of Penzance – Update

In view of the ongoing Covid-19 situation, and in the interests of the health and safety of its cast, crew, musicians and audiences, Brussels Light Opera Company has decided to postpone its production of The Pirates of Penzance to 19th-22nd May 2022; and its performance at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in the UK will now take place in August 2022.

The Production Team for 2022 remains the same, with Angela and Tony Lowe as Stage Directors, Lionel Bams as Music Director, and Barbara Bauer and Alex Just as Producers.

We have an excellent cast of Principals for the show and a great Chorus line-up.

There is, however, still time to join us. We are able to take on board additional chorus members, and plan to hold more auditions before the summer break. For further information, please contact blocpirates2021@gmail.com.

Our normal rehearsal venue is the De Kam Cultural Centre (172 Beekstraat, 1970 Wezembeek-Oppem), where we meet on Monday evenings (principals), Tuesday evenings (chorus and principals), and Sunday afternoons when the show gets nearer. Under our re-scheduled timetable, we plan to start traditional-style rehearsals (Covid permitting) at our rehearsal venue as from December 2021.

In the meantime, however, we are holding virtual music-learning rehearsals on a fortnightly basis. If you are considering auditioning, and would like to get a taste for the show, please send us an e-mail at blocpirates2021@gmail.com so that we can provide you with the link for the virtual rehearsals. You can also request the Auditions Information Pack by contacting us at the above e-mail address.
