The Zoo
The story is set in a zoo and tells the tale of two young men in love, fortunately with two different women. While one is rejected by the father of the woman he loves because of his low social standing (he is a mere apothecary) the other, in love with a lady tending one of the Zoo's refreshment stalls, appears to have no such worries.
Suicide attempts and dramatic revelations follow and it is hard to see how love can triumph in the end.

Trial by Jury
The fickle and bigoted defendant, Edwin, has fallen in love with another woman and has jilted the plaintiff, the beautiful Angelina. Unfortunately for Edwin, all of the members of the jury (and the judge) have fallen for Angelina themselves. Edwin proposes that in order to solve the conflict, he “marry this lady today and the other tomorrow”, to which, naturally, Angelina objects. Ultimately, the resolution that pleases everyone is for the judge to marry Angelina himself!
